Actor Sunny Deol has a word of advice for youngsters: Drive safe. The actor has revealed he was “crazy” for cars in his childhood and would sneak out and drive his actor-father Dharmendra’s cars, who was equally passionate about his four-wheelers.

Sunny Deol said when he was around 12-13 years old, he would sit on the lap of the driver and drive. Later as he aged, he would secretly take out cars from his father’s collection and head for a drive.

“I am fond of cars since childhood. I started driving around the age of 12-13, the car that my father would have. I was small so I would sit on the driver’s lap and drive. When my feet started reaching (the accelerator) I would sneak out and drive! It was a huge family, and my father had many cars, so I would take the keys, sneak out and drive,” the actor said in an interview with The Bombay Journey.

In the segment, his son actor Rajveer Deol was also present. When asked if he was also interested in cars the way his father was, Rajveer said he didn’t have any interest in it.

“Kids are not into it,” Sunny said, “but I was crazy about driving.” The actor then revealed he also got into accidents. “I had several accidents as well. Total losses of cars, three-four. Aaj ke zamane mein main hota toh sabse badnaam beta hota. (If I belonged to this generation, I would have been the worst son) But please don’t do this, it was a different time. Please be safe and follow the traffic rules,” Sunny Deol added.

On the work front, Rajveer recently made his acting debut with the romantic comedy-drama, Dono, co-starring Paloma Dhillon, daughter of Poonam Dhillon. The movie has emerged as a box office flop.

Meanwhile, Sunny Deol made a roaring comeback with the actioner, Gadar 2, which grossed Rs 524 cr at the box office. He will now star in Rajkumar Santoshi’s next, which is being produced by Aamir Khan.
