Stree 2 director Amar Kaushik opens up about credit war, says people around stars ‘feed their minds that they should get credit’

Stree 2 director Amar Kaushik said that people around the stars, possibly their managers, tell the stars that the credit belongs to them if the film is a hit.

Stree 2 recently became the biggest Bollywood hit of the year and during an occasion that called for celebration amid the cast and crew of the film, a strange PR war for credit rolled out on social media amid the film’s lead actors. Now, director Amar Kaushik has opened up about the credit war and said this has not affected the team’s relationship with each other. He also said that when a movie does well, people around the stars influence them into believing that they must get credit for the film. The movie stars Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao among others.

Talking about the credit war on social media, Amar told India Today, “Honestly, fans of stars usually have this fight on social media where they claim their favourite actor should get all the credit for the movie. It is okay. It is really to each their own. Fans getting into a social media war over credits is common. Also, when a film does well, people around [the stars] feed such things in the minds of everyone, including the cast, that they should get credit for the movie. Hence, I just went for a vacation to stay away from the noise because it is usually when you hit a certain mark is when it becomes easier to get trapped in such social media games.”

When asked if this affected the relationships of the cast members with each other, he shared that their bond had gotten better and they also made a video making fun of the so-called credit war. “Our bond has only gotten better. In fact, we have shot a video with the entire cast where we are replicating the ‘who gets the credit for the film’ fight and then I appear saying, ‘it is my film.’ It is a fun video that we have recorded,” he said.

Amar Kaushik said that the film belonged to everyone who worked on it including the technical crew. “Everyone knows that although the faces of the film were perhaps those 5-6 people, it is everyone who has worked behind the scenes that is equally responsible for the film’s success,” he said and added, “Everyone behind and in front of the film is responsible for the success. Now, the degree of love everyone gets can be different.”

Amar Kaushik’s Stree 2 has earned over Rs 500 crore in India.
