Stree 2 box office collection day 2: Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao-starrer Stree 2 has started its box office journey with a bang. The film, which opened to a whopping Rs 60.3 crore nett in India (including paid previews on Wednesday), surpassing the opening day collections of 2023 hits Animal and Pathaan, earned Rs 35.30 crore nett on its second day, as per trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The film’s grand total now stands at Rs 100.10 crore.
The horror-comedy had an overall Hindi occupancy of 45.31 percent on Friday, as it was a working day after the holiday pf Independence Day on Thursday. Stree 2 had 1175 shows in Delhi-NCR region which saw 56.75 percent occupancy and in Mumbai, where the film had 1107 shows, the occupancy was at 43.5 percent.
The film released alongside Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa on Independence Day. While Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein collected Rs 1.9 crore on its second day, taking its total to just Rs 6.95 crore, John Abraham-starrer Vedaa witnessed a major drop and earned Rs 1.6 crore, taking its total to Rs 7.9 crore. Apart from Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein, regional films such as Double iSmart (Telugu), Thangalaan (Tamil), and Mr Bachchan (Telugu) also released on August 15.
With an extended weekend until Monday, which is a holiday for Raksha Bandhan, it appears like Stree 2’s opening weekend collection will be historic. The makers had previously claimed that the film made Rs 76.5 crore gross on its first day.
Stree 2 is already ahead of last year’s Independence Day release Gadar 2. In the first two days, the Sunny Deol-starrer made Rs 83.18 crore and Stree 2 has already overtaken that number.
Stree 2 is a part of the Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy universe. Starting with Stree in 2018, the film went on to add Janhvi Kapoor-starrer Roohi, Varun Dhawan-starrer Bhediya and Sharwari Wagh-starrer Munjya in its franchise. Stree 2 is the fifth film in the horror universe.
Stree 2 also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurrana, and Abhishek Banerjee in important roles.
