Speculations are rife that cinema icon Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and her husband, actor Abhishek Bachchan are facing trouble after 17 years of marriage. While none of them has publicly addressed these claims, veteran actor-director Simi Garewal recently supported Abhishek in the face of rampant trolling.
Abhishek had once appeared as a solo guest on Simi’s talk show, Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, and sharing a clip from this interview on Instagram, she wrote: “Rendezvous Gems. I think everyone who knows Abhishek personally will agree he is among the nicest men in Bollywood. Good values and innate decency,” Firstpost reported. In the clip, Abhishek can be heard saying, “Call me old-fashioned, but… I have nothing against being frivolous. I have nothing against people wanting to have fun. If that’s what both of you consent to do, then go ahead. By all means, enjoy yourselves. But if you have committed to somebody, on whatever level, then abide by that commitment; otherwise, don’t make it. I personally feel that as a man, if you commit to a woman, even if you are her boyfriend, you should be loyal to her. ‘Cos you won’t like it if she wasn’t loyal to you. Men are usually accused of being very disloyal; I have never been able to understand that, and I don’t agree with it. It disgusts me.”
The post quickly went viral, drawing a range of responses in the comments. Director-choreographer Farah Khan voiced her agreement, noting, “I fully agree he’s just the nicest guy”. However, Simi later deleted the post after witnessing a backlash from a section of the social media.
Though rumours that all is not well between Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan have been doing the rounds for quite some time, they intensified after none of the Bachchans, including Abhishek, shared any wishes for Aishwarya on social media on her 51st birthday on November 1.
