Sikandar teaser presents Salman Khan as the saviour of masses.

Sikandar teaser: Salman Khan-starrer Sikandar dropped its teaser on Thursday. The 80-second teaser of the film introduces Salman’s character as a saviour named Sanjay, who was lovingly called Sikandar by his grandmother.

Salman appears to be the kind of hero who is saving the people from injustice but the only way he does it in this teaser is via violence. Salman is just throwing everyone who lands in his reach in the air as he mouths ‘paisa-vasool’ dialogues. The plot of the film isn’t evident here but we get to see a glimpse of his on-screen love interest, played by Rashmika Mandanna. There are some dance numbers here as well but the teaser only shows a glimpse of these. Sikandar has been directed by AR Murugadoss.

In the last few years, Salman has appeared in many cameo roles in films like Pathaan, Singham Again and Baby John. Salman Khan was last seen in a leading role in 2023’s Tiger 3. While the film did reasonably well, it did not yield the kind of box office collections that one expects out of a Bhai film. Since Pathaan and Jawan got impressive box office results in the same year, Tiger 3’s mediocre performance got highlighted even more. Earlier in 2023, Salman was seen in Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and even that film did not get the expected results.

Salman’s last big solo release happened before the pandemic in 2019, Dabangg 3. The film struggled to reach the Rs 150 crore mark, which, for a Salman release, was a concerning sign. Prior to that, his film Bharat, managed to collect around Rs 210 crore during its run but since Rs 180 crore out of that were made in the first week, it was evident that Bharat also did not make a mark with the star’s fans. The last big hit from Salman was 2017’s Tiger Zinda Hai, which made around Rs 340 crore at the box office.

Going by the performance of his last few films, it appears that Salman is in desperate need for a hit. While a few flops won’t take anything away from his stardom but more mediocre films won’t add anything to his legend as well.
