Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, who starred with Shah Rukh Khan in the Kundan Shah film Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, recently recalled in an interview that the actor, who was newly married at the time to Gauri Khan, would treat his wife like “rose petals” and that helped his performance as Sunil in the movie. Suchitra also shared that back then, Shah Rukh was shy with women.
Suchitra recalled in a chat with Siddharth Kannan that they witnessed SRK and Gauri’s love story on the set. “We were witnessing it on the set with Gauri. The way he was with Gauri, he used to be like she is made of rose petals, you know the way he used to treat her. It was just so beautiful.” Suchitra noted that it was SRK’s vulnerability that Kundan utilised in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa.
Recalling her time on the set, the actor said that she would often hang out with Gauri. “Shah Rukh was very reserved. I used to hang out with Gauri. He used to be quite shy and quiet with me,” she said and added, “I think he was shy with women.”
In an earlier chat with Bollywood Hungama, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi had shared that Shah Rukh Khan would think of Gauri Khan while doing scenes with her. “When Shah Rukh was doing Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, wo mujhe nahi dekh rahe the, wo Gauri ko dekh rahe the. Isiliye wo expressions sab itna masoom, itna real tha..it was all so real (He wasn’t looking at me, he was looking at Gauri. That’s why his expressions are so innocent, so real).”
In February, Shah Rukh recalled his time on Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa on the film’s anniversary and tweeted, “At that stage…in that age…..raw….uncontrolled…craft still undefined….surrounded by the best cast & crew in India and a director who I miss every day! Taught me that sometimes u lose the moment….but win everything else…I am sure somewhere, some world Sunil did too!”
