Shah Rukh Khan and Deepa Sahi starrer Maya Memsaab recently completed 30 years of its release and on the anniversary of the film, Sahi spoke about the time she shot with SRK. She recalled Shah Rukh being an “energetic” and “dedicated” actor who cared for everyone on the set.
At the time of its release, Maya Memsaab faced some controversy over some intimate scenes featuring Deepa Sahi and Shah Rukh Khan. Recalling the shoot, Sahi said that she was “giggly at first but then you got to do what you got to do”. Sahi said that she was “misunderstood” by some at the time of the film’s release but was relieved as “99.99 % of people got the intention”.
She shared that some scenes in the film were shot aesthetically which is why even CBFC passed it. “I remember at a terrace party, someone told Shakti Samanta ji, who was the Chief of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) then, that he was partial to Ketan Mehta as he allowed bold scenes but imposed cuts for even some dance moves for others. And he graciously replied, ‘You make a piece of poetry Ketan has made, and I promise not to impose any cuts.’ That was amazing.”
Ketan Mehta’s film was shot at the start of Shah Rukh Khan’s career. In a recent chat with the same publication, Mehta had recalled that when Shah Rukh was shooting for the film, his mother was critically ill but he went ahead with the shoot in Shimla as the unit was waiting for him.
