Shah Rukh Khan, Vijay and Atlee’s picture from the latter’s birthday party attracted a lot of attention last year. For Atlee, it was his best birthday gift to have both Shah Rukh and Vijay by his side on his birthday. Recently, Atlee shared what SRK and Vijay talked about when they met at his birthday party in Chennai. He also shared how the two are pestering him to write a movie, starring both of them.
Sharing the story behind the viral picture of him with Shah Rukh and Vijay, Atlee told Siddharth Kannan, “Last year, during the same time, we were shooting (for Jawan) till September 19. September 21 was my birthday. I saw, in my schedule, that two days were marked holidays by my producer, Gaurav Verma. It didn’t strike me when I saw two days were marked blank. So, I asked him, ‘Why these two days?’ He said, ‘Sir, it’s a national holiday for Red Chillies.’ I said, ‘What?’ He said, ‘Sir, it’s your birthday.'”
Jawan, which is currently dominating the box office, and is racing towards the coveted Rs 1000 crore mark, is produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s production company, Red Chillies Entertainment.
Atlee told his producer that he doesn’t want two days off for his birthday, and one day is fine. But the producer told him that the team wanted to celebrate it for two days. “It was from Shah Rukh sir only, of course. Thanks to Shah Rukh sir,” Atlee said.
Then, the film’s team flew to Chennai, and an otherwise introverted Atlee organised a birthday party. “Generally, I am a very cosy person. I don’t conduct parties. But, at that time, I thought all technicians had been working very hard for 32 days, we started on August 20, so I also wanted to have a party and take a break.”
At the party, Atlee invited his friends, including actor Vijay. “He has attended every birthday party of mine. He came. Bringing two icons under one roof was something else. It happened naturally. Vijay sir was very happy meeting Shah Rukh sir. Their discussion was something else. It was a dream come true for me.”
But unlike the general perception of two stellar actors always having some intense conversation about films, Shah Rukh and Vijay talked like ‘kids’. They asked each other things like, “What time do you get up? How much workout do you do? What do you have?” It was ‘fun’ for Atlee to listen to Shah Rukh and Vijay’s conversation.
At the party, the two actors also asked Atlee to write a script of a film, with both of them in it. “They both told me to bring a script and, ‘Definitely, we will do.’ I thought they were just saying it because it was my birthday. But the next day, Vijay sir messaged me, ‘If you are going to write, I am definitely a part of it,'” shared Atlee.
Shah Rukh also checked with Atlee if he is ‘seriously’ working on a film starring him and Vijay. Atlee shared what SRK told him, “He said, ‘We are serious about it. We want to make a film together.'”
In fact, both of them often ask the filmmaker, ‘Are you seriously working on it, or are you taking it as a joke?’ But Atlee assured, “I am definitely working on it. Someday, I might crack it, and then I will go to both of them and get their dates.”
After the theatrical success of Jawan, Atlee is working towards releasing an extended and a different version of the mass entertainer on an OTT platform. Besides Shah Rukh, the film stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, Deepika Padukone, among others.
