Actor Salman Khan seemed to reprise his playful personal on X (formerly Twitter) as he gave a shoutout to Kiran Rao’s new film, Laapataa Ladies, which is currently playing in theatres. But the actor seemed to be confused by the 13 years that have passed since her first film, Dhobi Ghat, because he described Laapataa Ladies as her ‘debut’. His fans were quick to point out that not only has Kiran Rao made a film before, Salman attended a party in honour of Dhobi Ghat back in the day.
On Wednesday, Salman took to X and wrote, “Just saw Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies. Wah wah Kiran. I really enjoyed it n so did my father. Congrats on your debut as a director, superb job. Kab kaam karogi mere saath?” Fans in the replies pointed out that in 2010, Salman attended a party hosted by Aamir in honour of two-time Oscar-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla, who worked on Dhobi Ghat. “Bro u literally attended the function for her directorial debut dhobhi ghat 14 years ago,” one person wrote, sharing pictures from the bash as evidence.

Salman had attended the party in a vest, and was joined by his Veer co-star Zarine Khan. “Bhai Ye Behan ka Debut nahi hai,” another person wrote in response to Salman’s post. Dhobi Ghat featured Aamir, Prateek Babbar and Monica Dogra, and was a moderate commercial success. But the times have changed since then, with little room in theatres for small-budget films. Laapataa Ladies opened to critical acclaim, but hasn’t exactly set the box office on fire. That being said, Salman himself hasn’t had an outright hit since 2017’s Tiger Zinda Hai. He was last seen in Tiger 3, which despite grossing over Rs 450 crore worldwide, was seen as an under-performer because of its Rs 300 crore budget.
