Karan Johar’s latest film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is holding well at the box office in its second week. On its second Monday, the film had 15.27% Hindi occupancy, which translated to a good haul at the box office. The film earned Rs 4.25 cr on Monday (Day 11), bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 109.33 cr, reported industry tracker Sacnilk. Globally, the film has crossed the Rs 200 cr mark.
On its second Monday, the film led by Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh witnessed a 49.15% fall from its first Monday, when it recorded a collection of Rs 7.02 crore. This shows that the film still has takers at the ticket counters, despite no holidays or festive season around. But, will its fate change with the release of the much-awaited Gadar 2 and OMG 2 this Friday or will it survive competition?
However, Karan Johar, who returned to feature film direction after a gap of seven years, is elated with the response. He penned a gratitude note on social media as Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani crossed the Rs 200 cr mark worldwide.
The filmmaker wrote on Instagram, “Prior to the release of this film, I felt that at any point of time I would need an IV drip and was near collapse!! The question I asked myself was – is it the long 7 year gap? Or the anxiety built over the last 3 years. Or the fact that we live in an ambiguous box office time. Whatever the real reason is – I was a bonafide mess! But the Friday, 28th of July, I felt nothing but gratitude, validation and sheer joy. This film is truly a product of team energy & love.”
He began by thanking the writers of his film, “I want to first express my deepest gratitude to the writing forces of this film – Shashank Khaitan & Sumit Roy, who guided me through the narrative journey of our film. Special mention to Ishita Moitra, who brought so much humour, introspection and cinema drama to the screenplay and crackling dialogues. This entire writing process would not have been possible without the creative governance & brilliance of Somen Mishra.”
KJo went on to thank fashion designer Manish Malhotra, editor Nitin Baid, music composer Pritam, choreographers Vaibhavi Merchant and Farah Khan, associate director Shauna Gautam and veteran stars Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi.
Giving Alia and Ranveer a special shoutout, he wrote, “To Rocky & Rani, I have a separate love letter I want to write to you but I want to say you’re the most indispensable part of this prem kahaani. Both of you, not only made the film what it is but also gave me so much energy from the love you gave me. I love you both to the moon & back – and I hope and pray that I get to work with you soon again.”
Karan concluded his post by thanking Apoorva Mehta, CEO of Dharma Productions, “Finally – to my brother, my boss & the strongest pillar I lean on – Apoorva Mehta. Dharma is here today only because of you.”
