Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone set the internet abuzz after being spotted together at Mumbai airport on Saturday. This marked Deepika’s first public appearance following her exit from the highly anticipated sequel to Kalki 2898 AD. In a few videos on social media, Ranbir can be seen stepping out of his car, dressed in all black, before heading into the airport terminal. He then spotted Deepika and she waved at him, and the two went ahead in the same airport shuttle. The two shared a warm hug before continuing their ride together inside the airport.
Another video from Delhi airport showed the former couple landing in the city together. They walked out together, hugged, and then went to their own cars. Deepika opted for a grey outfit during the outing. While it remains unclear why Deepika has travelled to Delhi, Ranbir is there for the Delhi outlet opening of his sneaker brand, Arks, an event he had mentioned during his birthday interaction with fans on Instagram Live last week.
Fans were quite excited to spot them together as the duo has not worked together since 2015’s Tamasha. The two are still loved for their performances as Bunny and Naina in Ayan Mukerji’s Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. In fact, watching them together had fans hoping for YJHD 2. “Get ready for YJHD 2 😭! Maybe shoot is in progress 😍😍,” wrote one of the fans.
Many would remember that Deepika and Ranbir dated each other for a few years soon after they made their debut in Bollywood in 2007. While Deepika was quite vocal about the circumstances that led to their break up, implying that he had cheated on her, they have since been quite cordial with each other. Deepika and Alia Bhatt, who is married to Ranbir, have appeared in a few interviews together, and Alia and Ranveer Singh, who is married to Deepika, share a close friendship as well.
Deepika recently walked away from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit. And a few weeks later, Kalki 2898 AD makers confirmed that she would no longer be part of the film’s sequel. The official statement posted on X read: “This is to officially announce that @deepikapadukone will not be a part of the upcoming sequel… After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways. … A film like Kalki 2898 AD deserves that commitment and much more.” Reports suggest that her decision followed failed negotiations, with demands for a fee hike, shorter working hours, and special provisions for her team cited as key factors.
Shortly after this news, Deepika made it to IMDb’s top five list of ‘Indian Cinema’s Most Prolific Headliners’ over the last 25 years. Shah Rukh Khan topped the list, followed by Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan, with Deepika in third place. While she expressed excitement over the recognition, she also took a subtle dig at the makers of Spirit and Kalki 2898 AD, mentioning how, as a woman, she was given strict guidelines on success but refuses to fit into that mould or shy away from ‘ruffling feathers.’
On the professional front, Deepika has started shooting for King alongside Shah Rukh Khan and is expected to begin filming her project with Allu Arjun, directed by Atlee, soon. Meanwhile, Ranbir is busy with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War and gearing up for the release of Ramayana in 2026.
