Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan launched his son Hrithik Roshan with 2000 film Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. While Hrithik might have become a superstar overnight, his journey to become a star wasn’t easy. The filmmaker revealed that his son was too lean in the initial years of his career and doctor had told them that Hrithik would never be able to dance of build a body due to a spinal chord condition.
Talking about it, Rakesh said, “After Koyla I was looking for a story to make. Someone told me, isme naya ladka ho to acha rahega, romantic image sell hogi…To Hrithik bhi baitha hua tha. To maine bola ki Hrithik ko le lenge (Someone told me to launch a new face, the romantic image will sell. Hrithik was sitting there only and I said let’s take Hrithik).”
He was very lean and thin. Doctors told him that aap kabhi physique nahi bana sakte, dance nahi kar sakte. Kyunki aap me inherent kuch problem hai spinal chord mein. But he challenged everything and he started exercising with books and slowly from books he came to dumbbells and from dumbells he made all this physique (Doctors told him that he can never make a physique because he had some inherent problem in his spinal chord).”
Eventually, Hrithik went on to give hit films such as Agneepath, Kabhi Khushi Khabhie Gham, Super 30, War and Krrish and garnered a huge following. The passion for films seems to run in the family, as Rakesh revealed how much he loved cinema during his childhood.
“When I was in 7th standard, I used to study in Mumbai only. I didn’t go to school. I would skip school and go to watch movie. Junglee picture, Shammi kapoor ki. Maine lagataar 28 din, 28 baar dekhi hai. (I saw Shammi Kapoor’s Junglee picture 28 times in 28 days.) One day I got caught. So my father got really angry and I was sent to a boarding school.”
Rakesh’s last directorial was 2013 Krrish 3 and will next be directing the next sequel of the film, with Hrithik reprising the superhero role.
