Actor Rajiv Kapoor, the youngest brother of actors Rishi Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor, was only 58 when he lost his life. He died of a heart attack in 2021, a year after Rishi passed away due to cancer. He was great friends with veteran actor Khushbu Sundar, who recently shared details about his health. Khushbu revealed that alcoholism was a major problem that Rajiv dealt with, and this affected other aspects of his health. She said, “He did have a heart issue, but because of his addiction to alcohol, we knew that it could create a huge problem. We were not successful in making him quit this habit.”

Speaking to Vickey Lalwani, she shared, “He (Rajiv) was keeping extremely low. He had a major issue with his knee, so he underwent a couple of surgeries. But that didn’t help him at all. We were definitely aware that Chimpu was unwell. I was in Bombay when Chimpu died. I was informed about his death by Boney Kapoor. He called me and said, ‘Chimpu is no more’. It came as a rude shock to me.”

Khushbu Sundar shared she had spoken to Rajiv a day before his death. Sharing the details, the actor said, “I spoke to Chimpu just a day before his death. He was down with very high fever and it was during COVID-19. Despite being unwell, he was being his usual self… He was taking his health lightly and promised to meet soon.”

Khushbu shared they were so close that it was a ritual for her to meet him for meals. She said, “His death came as a shock to me. It is very rare to find people with so much liveliness and the commitment towards their friends and friendships. We still believe he is with us.”

Khushbu still hasn’t deleted Rajiv’s phone number. However, she regrets not being in touch with his family, as he was her only connection to them. Speaking about their friendship, the actor shared, “He has taught me so many things. I only put white nail paint on my toes because Chimpu once told me that it’s classy. He had told me this in 1983, and till date, I only use the same paint. He didn’t like the way I walk, so he made me learn how to walk with heels without making any noise.”

Khushbu Sundar and Rajiv Kapoor became friends during the making of the film Ram Teri Ganga Maili. Raj Kapoor had first decided to launch her with the 1985 film, but because she was just 14 at that time, the filmmaker-actor cast Mandakini in the role instead.
