Finally, the much-awaited glimpse of Project-K has been released amid much fanfare at the ongoing San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) in the US. Besides showing a glimpse, the makers also announced the final title of the movie as Kalki 2898AD, replacing the working title of Project K. Actors Prabhas and Kamal Haasan released the teaser at the event titled ‘This is Project K: First Glimpse of India’s Mytho-Sci-fi Epic’. A multi-lingual sci-fi film, project K has been directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by Vyjayanthi Movies.
“When the World is taken over by Darkness, a Hero Rises,” it says in the video. The glimpse of Kalki 2898AD shows a war-torn world in the future, where people seem to be ruled by dark forces and technology, and are treated violently and brutally by the oppressor. The video shows the lines, “When the world is taken over by darkness, a force will arise. The end begins now.” In the glimpse, Deepika’s character as a recruit in the army who seems to be caught up in emotional turmoil, whereas Prabhas’s character is seen as a brave warrior who rises to the occasion to save his world.
Amitabh’s character is also seen in the glimpse as an intense, warrior draped in bandages. At one point, a character is seen asking, “What is Project K”. One can see influences of Star Wars and Marvel on the glimpse.

Project-K team has been in San Diego for the last few days. The actor was the first to arrive with his Baahubali co-star Rana Daggubati. Later Kamal Haasan also joined the team and received a warm welcome from fans.
Who is Kalki?
According to Hindu mythology, Kalki is supposed to be the final incarnation of Vishnu, who is yet to appear. At the end of the present age, also called Kalyug or Kali yuga, when dharma has completely disappeared and the world is ruled by oppressors, Kalki will come to the earth to end the oppression and start a new age.
At the Comic-Con, artistes dressed as raiders were present at the Hall H, where the Kalki 2898 AD reveal took place. Fans were seen clicking photos with the raiders, who came with posters of the film. It had “Now begins the end” written on it. Vyjayanthi Movies shared multiple photos from SDCC and wrote, “The Raiders have started taking over Comic-Con. Meet them and raid along into our universe.” A comic strip that teased the story of Kalki 2898AD was also launched at the event. In the strip, as raiders torment an old man who refuses to yield to torture, Prabhas’ hero comes to his aid.
Actor Deepika Padukone did not attend the event since she is part of the The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). The actor joined the union when she made her English language film debut as the female lead in XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, which had Vin Diesel in the lead. With the SAG-AFTRA strike underway, the union has specified that actors cannot provide promotional or publicity services. That extends to appearances at conventions, such as the San Diego Comic Con.
Director Nag Ashwin had earlier said in a statement, “India is the home of some of the greatest lore and superheroes ever written. We feel that our film is an attempt to bring out and share this with the world. And Comic-Con gives us the perfect stage to introduce our story to a global audience.”
The first looks of Prabhas and Deepika were revealed a few days ago. The posters were met with mixed responses, with many unhappy with Prabhas’ look. The film, produced by C Aswani Dutt of Vyjayanthi Movies, also stars actor Disha Patani.
