Director Siddharth Anand’s action-thriller Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, started streaming on Prime Video on Wednesday, after breaking box office records during its theatrical run. After the film’s digital debut, fans were quick to identify certain scenes that weren’t a part of the theatrical cut. There is only one streaming version of Pathaan currently available, and the extended cut hasn’t been labeled as such.
Pathaan, which also stars Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Dimple Kapadia and Ashutosh Rana in supporting roles, was released in the theaters on January 25. The film revolves around a RAW agent, played by SRK, and his attempts to safeguard India from a deadly attack. Pathaan had grossed Rs 1046 cr worldwide, and finished its theatrical run as the highest-grossing Hindi language film of all time in India.
One of the deleted scenes shows Shah Rukh’s Pathaan being mercilessly tortured by Russians. Another quick scene shows his grand return to the RAW office after being rescued by Salman Khan’s Tiger. A third scene has Deepika’s Rubai being interrogated by the Indian forces about Jim, played by John.
Audiences shared screenshots of the deleted scenes on social media and expressed their disappointment at not being able to experience them on the big screen. The one which shows Shah Rukh re-entering the RAW office in style left fans particularly disappointed.
One fan wrote in a tweet, “This scene should not have deleted. #Pathaan #ShahRukhKhan.” Another tweeted, “This look and scene added. Dashing PATHAAN 🥵😍.” One of them also wrote on Twitter, “Why the hell this scene was deleted….Ye scene theatre me aag laga deta🔥🔥.” One viewer wrote about SRK’s torture scene, “Damn! This should have been in the film! Would have been Hilarious!!.”
Pathaan is a part of Yash Raj Films ‘spy-universe’ which includes Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger and Tiger Zinda Hai, and Hrithik Roshan’s War. Previously, Siddharth Anand had said that a scene that elaborated on Pathaan’s backstory was also deleted from the theatrical cut.
