Director Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files was announced as the winner of the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration at the 69th National Film Awards. Following the win, former Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, commented about the development on his X (formerly Twitter) account, and wrote “National integration,” with a laughing emoji.
As Omar shared this tweet, Vivek responded by thanking him and wrote, “This is the biggest award coming from you @OmarAbdullah. If you had commented otherwise, I would have been very disappointed. Thanks again.” The film defied poor critical reviews and emerged as a big hit at the box office.
The Kashmir Files’ box office success divided viewers, as many saw it as a propaganda film.
Anurag Thakur, Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting congratulated the entire team of the film via X and wrote, “Today, as ‘The Kashmir Files’ receives the National Award for Best Film on National Integration, we’re reminded of the poignant tales it narrates. This film, with its heart-wrenching storytelling, sheds light on the untold stories from the Valley, echoing the pain, resilience, and hope of its people. Congratulations to @vivekagnihotri ji and the entire team for crafting a cinematic masterpiece that touches the soul and makes us reflect deeply. May our cinema continue to be a mirror to our society, fostering understanding and unity.”
Actor Pallavi Joshi won the award for the Best Supporting Actress for the film. Anupam Kher, who also starred in the film, congratulated the film’s team and shared on X, “Delighted and proud that #TheKashmirFiles won the prestigious and most important #NationalAward – Nargis Dutt award for #BestFeatureFilm on national integration. Not only as an actor but also being an executive producer on the film I am so happy for this recognition for our film.” He added that he “would have loved to win an award for my acting too.”
