Maintaining long hair like women do is not an easy job. R Madhavan has realised it the hard way. The actor, who has been growing his hair and beard for his role as a retired boxer in Saala Khadoos, has been finding it quite a task to maintain his growing tresses.

Talking about how his long hair and its styling has indirectly increased his respect for women, Madhavan said, ” My respect for women has gone up tremendously after I have grown my hair and beard. Earlier on having a bath was like a two minute job. Turn on the shower, have a bath, come out, rinse your hair and you are done. Now I have to think whether I have to wear a shower cap or not while bathing, should I wet my hair or not, should I try styling my hair differently or not. And to dry my hair takes 20 minutes.”

Talking about the challenges faced while preparing for his role, Madhavan said, “Being a boxer is very difficult. My admiration and respect for boxers have gone up. I learnt boxing for eight months and I used to do 45 seconds of sparring without actually punching somebody or getting punched and that was enough to break my back.”

Madhavan was present at the conference of IMC – Ladies Wing, where discussions veered around his dazzling smile. When asked about it, Madhavan said, “Smile when you need to and from your heart. Any smile can look charming. When a child smiles irrespective of how he looks, the smile dazzles. Ditto for an old man without teeth who smiles. They smile for the right reasons. They have no impressions to make.”
