Singer Mika Singh opened up about his admiration for the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, and revealed that he once gatecrashed Big B’s Diwali party. Mika’s brother, Daler Mehndi, rose to greater heights after in the 1990s after collaborating with Amitabh Bachchan on a song. In an interview, Mika said that Daler once pulled a prank on him by getting a Bachchan impersonator on the phone and having him talk to Mika.
Speaking to The Lallantop, Mika recalled the stories. He said, “Every year, Mr Bachchan would celebrate Diwali at his house, and I would pass by and admire all the decorations. I always wanted to be invited. I had a big car, a Hummer, so I entered his house without an invitation once. I took a couple of rounds, and exited. I used to invite him to my shows. I would send him messages, and he would reply, ‘God bless you.'”
Mika told this to Daler, and Daler said that he wasn’t talking to Bachchan at all. “He told me, ‘I’ll get you the real Bachchan on the line, wait’. And he called a number and started saying, ‘Mr Bachchan, here, my brother Mika wants to talk to you’. I immediately stood up out of respect, and spoke to Mr Bachchan. He sounded exactly like him. I didn’t know that Daler paaji had pulled a prank on me; I was talking to some duplicate.”
Mika explained how he found out. He said that he gave up hope of having Bachchan attend one of his shows, and stopped sending him invites. One day, at a shoot, Mr Bachchan was there, and I was trying to hide from him. He called me over and asked me why I’d stopped sending him messages. He said that he would look forward to them, and that I shouldn’t stop. That’s the day my admiration for him increased.”
Mika said that Bachchan also attended a ‘mahurat’ event for a ‘flop’ film that he once starred in. He said that he knew the film would flop, but made a request to Bachchan to offset some of the producer’s burden. Bachchan said that he would show up at 9 am, and he was there exactly on time. “He honoured his word, and performed the mahurat for my flop film,” Mika said.
