The 20th MAMI (Mumbai Academy of Moving Image) Film Festival started on Thursday and many film celebrities attended the opening ceremony in Mumbai. The festival saw the presence of many actors including Aamir Khan, Dulquer Salmaan, Radhika Apte, Tabu, Kalki Koechlin and Rasika Duggal. Directors Rajkumar Hirani and Tanuja Chandra were also there to extend his support to the festival. Festival director and film critic Anupama Chopra was in attendance alongside MAMI chairperson Kiran Rao.
This year, MAMI has made the decision to drop various films by artistes who have been accused of harassment or misconduct to stand by the #MeToo movement. Tanmay Bhat production Chintu Ka Birthday, Rajat Kapoor’s directorial Kadakh, Anurag Kashyap produced Bebaak and most recently, Ere Gowda’s Balekempa were all dropped from the film festival.
The festival starts on October 25 and lasts until November 1.
