Shanaya Kapoor — daughter of actor Sanjay Kapoor and Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives cast member Maheep Kapoor — is finally making her debut in Bejoy Nambiar’s Tu Yaa Main, after waiting in the wings for years. Shanaya was supposed to make her debut with Karan Johar’s Dharma but despite an announcement to that effect, it never came to fruition. Many of her films were announced — including one with Mohanlal, but it seems Nambiar’s film, also starring Adarsh Gourav, will be the first off the shelves.
In an interview to Filmfare, Maheep has now addressed her daughter’s debut, saying that she has learnt from her father’s struggles. Sanjay, despite a few hits, never managed to establish himself in Bollywood. “She has seen her father’s struggle and is very sensible and centred. She has now signed a couple of films and is working very hard,” she said.
Talking about her own reality TV show, Maheep added, “When I was told that Karan Johar was making a show around Bollywood wives, I couldn’t believe it. I was scared to come out of the comfortable cocoon I had made for myself throughout these years. But then Karan told me that I had to do this show.”
She even shared that she had discussed doing the show with her children before saying yes.
Maheep also talked about using fillers and Botox and the struggles of being in front of the screen at this age. “The first season is innocent and magical. But when you look at yourself on the screen, you notice all the angles; that is when the magic changes slightly. I used fillers for the second season, and I have to admit I looked like a clown.” She described that using fillers was like operating a tire pump, and Botox can be used to just iron out all the wrinkles.
When asked about the relationship she had with her late sister-in-law Sridevi, she described the actor as a goddess. “She used to walk around like a queen with an aura around her and was also very motherly. Whenever Sanjay and I had to travel, we used to leave the kids with her,” said the actor.
The show Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives started streaming in November 2020 and has 3 seasons available on Netflix. The cast and crew of the show, including Maheep, recently received the Best Reality or Best Non-Scripted Show award at the 2025 IIFA Digital Awards.
