Actor Kubbra Sait, who played the role of a house help in the Salman Khan-starrer Ready, has shared an interesting anecdote about having lunch with Salman on the sets of the film. She revealed that despite feeling hungry and surviving on only two apples all day while she waited for work to start, sitting down with Salman and the rest of the crew made her forget all about her hunger and quelled her irritation.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Kubbra said that during a shoot in Colombo, the cast and crew (except Salman) arrived on sets early in the morning but were not given breakfast. Kubbra shared that everyone proceeded to have their makeup done, and once she had completed hers, she ended up sleeping because the shoot was yet to start.
The actor said that around 2 or 3 pm, Salman finally arrived. She said, “Finally Salman Khan walks in, then he flexes his muscles and says ‘lunch break.’ Subha se sirf do apple khaye the maine socha ‘lunch he kar lete hai (I’d just eaten two apples all day, and even though I was wondering when work would start, I thought let’s eat).’”
She added, “The beauty of working with Salman Khan is that you actually have one big table set up and he says ‘aapne khaya, tumne khaya?’ And this is why eating a meal with company is so important to me, because you cannot hold grudges. Phir set laga, humne shoot kiya.”
In an earlier interview with journalist Faye D’Souza, Kubbra had recalled the same story. She’d said, “You know someone important has arrived. That important person is the hero of the film. Everyone’s pulling up their pants and like let’s do some work and there emerges Salman Khan. We were shooting at a golf course so it’s a visual. There are these big massive life-sized windows and Salman Khan comes and flexes his back, moves his head to either side and says, ‘Lunch break karein?’”
The 2011 action-comedy film Ready was directed by Anees Bazmee. The movie starred Salman and Asin in lead roles, with Paresh Rawal, Mahesh Manjrekar, Arya Babbar, and Akhilendra Mishra in supporting roles.
