Following their shared victory in receiving the Best Actress honour at the 69th National Film Awards, Kriti Sanon remarked that she and Alia Bhatt intend to celebrate the achievement together when they attend the award ceremony. Kriti and Alia were honoured with awards for their performances in Mimi and Gangubai Kathiawadi, respectively. Helmed by Laxman Utekar, Mimi was A remake of the 2011 Marathi film Mala Aai Vhhaychy.
Heaping praise on Alia Bhatt, Kriti Sanon said, during a chat with Mid-Day, “She was phenomenal in Gangubai Kathiawadi. I have always admired her as an actor. I congratulated her, and we were just two girls screaming on the phone, taking it in and being happy for each other. We [said] that when we go to take the award together, we will celebrate this moment.”
Referring to it as one of the most significant dreams in her career, Kriti remarked, “I had written it in my personal diary. Not many actors get to live this moment.”
Mimi also earned actor Pankaj Tripathi his first National Film Award, in the Best Supporting Actor category. “My excitement was doubled when I saw Pankaj ji has won for Mimi too. I called him up and we spoke. He’s visiting his hometown right now. I’ve great regard for him. He’s one of my most favourite co-stars and I truly always wish and pray for the best for him. I’m so happy that he’s getting all the love and validation he truly deserves,” Kriti said during a chat with News18.
Soon after the award win, Kriti took to Instagram and penned a heartfelt note thanking all those who helped her achieve the honour. “Elated – overwhelmed – grateful. Still sinking it in… pinching myself… this has actually happened! The National Award for Best Actress for Mimi! Thank you to the jury who considered my performance worthy of the most prestigious award! It means the world to me!”
“Dinoo, I can’t thank you enough for believing in me and my potential, for standing by me always and for giving me a film I’ll treasure all my life! Laxman sir.. You always told me ‘Mimi, dekhna aapko is film ke liye National Award milega..’ Mil gaya sir! And I couldn’t have done this without you. Mom, Dad, Nups.. You guys are my lifeline! Thank you for always being my constant cheerleaders…”
“Congratulations Aliaaaa! So so well deserved! I’ve always admired your work and I’m too excited that I get to share this huge moment with you! Yayyyiiee!! Biggg hug. Let’s celebrate,” she added.
Last seen in Om Raut’s mythological action film Adipurush, Kriti is now gearing up for the release of her upcoming dystopian action film Ganapath: Part 1. Featuring Tiger Shroff and Amitabh Bachchan too key roles, Ganapath will hit the theatres on October 20. Subsequently, the first movie bankrolled by Kriti Sanon’s production house Blue Butterfly Films’, Do Patti, has gone on the floors.
