Despite being more than 15 years old, Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met remains an all-time favourite among its fans. Kareena Kapoor’s portrayal of the central character Geet continues to be appreciated, and the performance is often ranked among the best of her career.
However, the actor recently pointed out that her performances in films like Chameli, Omkara, Heroine, and Yuva went unnoticed, while Poo (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…) and Geet continue to receive the lion’s share of attention.
During a recent conversation with Hindustan Times, when the interviewer asked her why every film she does is compared to her iconic performance in Jab We Met, Kareena said: “Of course, it will always be compared to Poo and Geet, they are iconic I understand. Everybody is going to compare. But I feel like people should talk about Chameli, Omkara, Heroine, they are pretty underrated in terms of my performance, Yuva too. Why don’t people talk about that.”
Likening Jab We Met to “ghar ki khichdi“, she said: “You see it again and again, there’s always something new, it doesn’t seem like an old film. That’s a rarity, every time you watch it’s like you are watching it for the first time. It’s just the character.”
The 42-year-old actor, who was last seen in Advait Chandan’s Laal Singh Chaddha, alongside Aamir Khan, said that her role in the upcoming The Devotion of Suspect X will mark another creative leap for her.
