Kamini Kaushal (1927-2025): Late actor’s family and pets pay last respect at funeral

Veteran actor Kamini Kaushal passed away on Thursday, November 14, and on Saturday, her funeral was held in Mumbai. Visuals of her loved ones paying their final respects to the legendary star outside her residence in Mumbai surfaced online, marking the end of an era. Kaushal was 98 and oldest living actor in India.

Alongside her family, her pet dogs were also seen at the funeral. Kamini Kaushal rose to prominence in the 1950s, shortly after making her debut in Chetan Anand’s Neecha Nagar (1946), a landmark film that won at the Cannes Film Festival. Over the decades, she delivered memorable performances in classics such as Nadiya Ke Paar, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, and Chennai Express, among many others. Her final screen appearance was in Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha.

Following the news of her death, tributes poured in from across the film industry. Actors who had worked with her shared heartfelt messages on social media. Kiara Advani, who co-starred with Kamini Kaushal in Kabir Singh (2019), wrote on Instagram: “It was an honour to work with you. Your grace, humility, and talent inspired generations and left an unforgettable mark on Indian cinema. Rest in peace, Kamini Kaushal Ji.” Shahid Kapoor also remembered the late actress, sharing a simple yet touching message: “Rest in light, ma’am.”

On Friday, Sajan Narain, a close family associate, told PTI, “She died at her Mumbai home late on Thursday night. She would have turned 99 in February.”

The celebrated star, who had acted alongside icons like Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, and Raaj Kumar, is survived by her sons—Shravan, Vidur, and Rahul Sood.
