You can never have enough of Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan, on-screen or off-screen. While in cinema, the two create magic with their chemistry and romance, in real life, their stories are always the most interesting ones. Kajol, in a recent interview, opened up about a still from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, where SRK carries her on his shoulder. She shared how she was feeling bad about it and that irked him. And while they had an effortless shoot, she joked how he had a frozen shoulder later on.

In an interview with Curly Tales, Kajol was shown various photos from her journey and asked to reveal the story behind it. As the poster of DDLJ came up on the screen, the actor laughed saying that she is wondering how she got to this position.

She then on to call SRK ‘bechara’ as she spoke about their shoot and how her words irritated him. “He had to carry me on his shoulder. I was feeling so bad and asking him continuously if he would manage it. I think it took a hit on his masculinity. He was like how can you say this, I am a guy,” Kajol recalled with a loud laugh.

She then shared that they were shooting this in a studio and Shah Rukh did not make her feel heavy at all. She added with a smirk, “Later he had a frozen shoulder.”

Directed by Aditya Chopra, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was a blockbuster when it released in 1995 and strengthened both Kajol and SRK’s position in the film industry as bonafide stars. DDLJ, as known commonly, achieved several feats upon its release. Till date it continues to be the longest running film in theatres in Indian cinema and is amongst the highest grossing Hindi films ever.

Shah Rukh and Kajol eventually went on to do more films together like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, My Name Is Khan and Dilwale. However, a remake of the cult DDLJ was never even attempted. When the film completed 27 years, Shah Rukh, in an interview, revealed why the film’s casting and crew became so unique.

“I think the people who made the film Aadi (Aditya Chopra) and Karan (Johar) was the AD, there were a lot of youngsters, including us,” he said and added in jest, “I am still young. We can still do Dilwale Dulhania Phir Se Le Jaynege!”

The actor resumed on a serious note as he said, “All of us were friends or becoming friends. Some of us knew each other from before that and now after 10 years we are still friends. I think that level of comfort for everyone, not just the hero-heroine was very fresh. Haste khelte kuch ban gaya that and I think that is what makes Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge special. I don’t think we will ever be able to make Dilwale, including us again unless you take that level of friendship and happiness.”

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge also starred Amrish Puri, Anupam Kher, Farida Jalal, Mandira Bedi, Himani Shipuri and Parmeet Sethi.
