Actor Jyotika, who ventured into Bollywood with the film Doli Saja Ke Rakhna in 1998, took a hiatus from Hindi cinema thereafter. After more than twenty years, she returned to Bollywood with the thriller Shaitaan. But her real comeback was supposed to be Srikanth: Aa Raha Hai Sabki Aankhein Kholne opposite Rajkummar Rao, which will release next month.
Srikanth director Tushar Hiranandani has now revealed that Jyotika had initially rejected the role of Srikanth Bolla’s teacher in the upcoming movie. In an interview with News18, Tushar said, “I see a lot of South films starring Jyotika, particularly the Tamil ones. I always thought that she was a great actor. Her first film was Doli Saja Ke Rakhna, which is a Hindi film. She’s a Punjabi kudi and so, she knows Hindi. So, I approached her for Srikanth. But she told me that she won’t be able to do it.”
He continued, “The very next day, she called me up and said that she wanted to do my film. She told me that Suriya had read the script and had told her that she could not miss out on it. Then both Suriya sir and Jyotika called me home and that’s when she officially confirmed that she’s doing my film.”
Tushar said that Jyotika hadn’t done Hindi movies for a long time. Srikanth was the first Hindi film she agreed to and she shot for Shaitaan later. Casting director Mukesh Chhabra asked him to convince Jyotika to join Shaitaan. So, he called her and said, “Please do it. It’s Vikas (Bahl) sir’s film.”
The director also said they wanted a fresh face for the teacher’s role in Srikanth since Rajkummar Rao had worked with almost every female actor. The movie is all set to release in theatres on May 10.
