Videos of Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor performing the hook step of the title track from their film, Loveyapa, have sparked mixed reactions from the audience. The duo has faced trolling for their dance video, with many criticising their perceived awkwardness and lack of chemistry. Recently, in an interaction, Junaid admitted that he is a “really bad” dancer and shared how Farah Khan, who choreographed the film’s song “Rehna Kol”, cancelled his performance and asked him to simply sit and watch Khushi perform.

Speaking to Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa, Junaid revealed, “Farah ma’am canceled our dance. During rehearsals, her assistants taught us the steps. But when she saw me perform, she decided to keep only Khushi’s dance and canceled my part. She asked me to perform in front of her, watched me, and said, ‘Tujhse nahi hoga, tu chalke aa. Khushi se dance hoga, tu baithke dekh isko‘ (You can’t dance, just walk. Khushi will dance, you just sit and watch her).”

Junaid further admitted that while he loves dancing, he is simply not good at it. He recalled how he had to train extensively for a dance sequence in his debut film, Maharaj. “I had to do garba in Maharaj. I rehearsed for 10 weeks, practicing four hours daily. If you look at me in the film, I’m so thin. It’s all Vaibhavi ma’am’s (choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant) magic,” he said.

He then shared that despite his intense preparation, the film’s editor cut his performance and only kept wide shots to avoid focusing on his dance moves. “Shweta mam cut everything in that song, I was looking so good in it. She didn’t keep one mid-shot of mine. She has only kept wide to close shoots,” he added.

After Loveyapa release this Friday, Junaid has another film lined up with South star Sai Pallavi. Meanwhile, Khushi Kapoor will be seen opposite Saif Ali Khan’s son, Ibrahim Ali Khan, in Naadaniyaan, which is backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and marks Ibrahim’s acting debut.
