It would be an understatement to call Juhi Chawla, one of the most loved Bollywood actresses of the late ’80s and ‘90s, and a ‘national crush’ even before the word became popular on social media. Needless to say, the success of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (QSQT) made her an overnight sensation. In a recent episode of Madness Machayenge, Juhi shared an endearing story about her time working with director Nagesh Kukunoor on the film 3 Deewarein and recalled her disbelief when Nagesh first expressed his admiration for her work in QSQT.
“I was working in Nagesh Kukunoor’s 3 Deewarein and shooting in Hyderabad. He told me that he was my fan and liked my work in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (QSQT). I thought he was joking and was being sweet because I was working with him,” she shared.
As their professional relationship developed, Nagesh invited Juhi to his home for lunch, where he revealed a treasured poster of her film pasted inside his cupboard. “One day, after the shoot, he took me to his house for lunch and showed me a poster of QSQT pasted inside his cupboard. He told me, ‘Maine aaj tak nahin utaare (I still have them stuck here. I haven’t taken them off).’ It is so interesting that he was a fan and here, I am working on his film and he was directing me. Life can be amazing.”
3 Deewarein, also featuring Naseeruddin Shah and Jackie Shroff, is the story of a documentary filmmaker who films the reformation story of three hardened criminals within the prison walls – and in the process, finds redemption in her own life.
