If there is Shah Rukh Khan, there has to be women. The prevue of filmmaker Atlee’s latest spectacle Jawan which dropped on Monday rides–and heightens– Shah Rukh Khan’s star power, but also throws into the mix the director’s cinematic style- of mounting large actioners around themes of some societal correction.
If the 2-min prevue is to go by, the filmmaker has retained his fusion of ‘women empowerment’ cinema, led by a superstar in the film which aims to deliver as many kicks and punches as messages. Jawan prevue doesn’t falter on that front, as it is packed wall-to-wall with set pieces, heroic moments, Anirudh’s pulsating background music and– the women.
Jawan features an ensemble of female actors including Nayanthara (in her Hindi debut), Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra and Ridhi Dogra among others. The prevue gives a glimpse of Shah Rukh’s possible vigilante character, as he mounts his army of women. “Good to go girls,” he says in the promo, as the women get ready, armed with guns and a mission in mind.
The Jawan prevue smartly places Shah Rukh Khan’s character around women–right from when he was born, which looks like a prison of female inmates, to his growing up years and the big action set piece of hijacking a running metro.

Backed by Red Chillies Entertainment, Jawan has been written and directed by Atlee, with Hindi dialogues penned by Sumit Purohit. The movie is scheduled to release on September 7.
