Court to record Salman’s statement on March 27

Khan's statement would be recorded under section 313 that allows the accused to tell his side of the story.

The prosecution in the 2002 Salman Khan hit-and-run case on Wednesday closed its arguments with the examination of the last witness concluding.

The prosecution has examined 27 witness in total in the case including one eye-witness who turned hostile. The witness was one of the 12 eye-witnesses in the case.

The court has scheduled March 27 for recording Khan’s statement. Khan will undergo the procedure prescribed under Section 313 of the Criminal Procedure Code as the trial in the 13-year-old case comes to an end.

Under the provision, the accused is given a chance to explain the circumstances and allegations against him and also answer questions about the evidence. Khan would also be allowed to bring witnesses on record to defend his case.

The last witness examined in court on Wednesday was the third investigating officer in the case.

In 2013, a fresh trial was ordered against the actor under ‘culpable homicide not amounting to murder`, due to which the evidence and witnesses are being re-examined in the session court.
