Veteran actor and BJP MP Hema Malini recently attended a Navratri event in Uttar Pradesh. Her presence, however, sparked controversy after a video of her appearing to ignore a fan trying to click a selfie went viral on social media. The incident has divided opinion online, with some netizens branding her “arrogant” and drawing comparisons to fellow veteran Jaya Bachchan, often noted for her confrontational exchanges with the media and fans.
In the viral video shared by the fan, Hema Malini is seen attending the event as a guest of honour. The woman, holding her phone, asked the actor to look into the camera and smile for a selfie. Hema glanced at the phone for a moment but quickly turned away without responding.

Several social media users reacted strongly in the comments section of the post. “Why does Hema Malini accept public invitations when she has so many issues with clicking pictures with fans?” a user commented. “Why so much attitude?” another person questioned. “She is Jaya Bachchan’s copy,” a comment read. “Unnecessary attitude. If she wanted to behave this way, what was the purpose of going then?” a user wrote.
On the other hand, many users also came to her support in the comments section. “First ask for permission before taking a pic or video… otherwise this is how they respond,” a user wrote. “Madam, there are some etiquettes we need to keep in mind before taking videos and photos. Ask or request the other person if they are comfortable or okay to take a picture with you,” another commented. Actor Sunita Rajwar also spoke in her defence and wrote, “Why do people want to get clicked like this with no respect and response? An actor is a human being like you, don’t do this to yourself.”
Hema Malini was last seen on screen in Shimla Mirchi (2020).
