Dining with the Kapoors: How Ranbir Kapoor is related to Navya Naveli, decoding Kapoor family tree

While the world knows Navya as Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan’s granddaughter, she is also the great-granddaughter of Raj Kapoor. Navya is the daughter of Nikhil Nanda and Shweta Bachchan (Amitabh and Jaya’s daughter). Her father Nikhil is the son of Ritu Nanda and Rajan Nanda. Ritu was one of the two daughters of Raj Kapoor. Navya was a part of the family lunch.

During the show, Ranbir Kapoor was trying to figure out their relationship. While he insisted they were cousins, Navya said he was her chacha. Ranbir’s sister finally solved it when she said that she was Navya’s bua (father’s sister).

Agastya Nanda

Like Navya, Agastya is also the great-grandson of Raj Kapoor. Agastya and Navya are both kids of Shweta Bachchan and Nikhil Nanda. Nikhil was the grandson of Raj Kapoor, as his mother Ritu Nanda was Raj Kapoor’s daughter. Agastya was a part of the special, but did not participate in the lunch. Agastya will next be seen in Sriram Raghavan’s Ikkis.

Nitasha Nanda

Nitasha, fondly called Tashu throughout the special, is the granddaughter of Raj Kapoor. Her mother Ritu Nanda was Raj’s daughter. Her brother is Nikhil Nanda, father of Agastya and Navya Naveli and married to Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter Shweta.

Zahan Kapoor

Zahan made waves with his performance in Black Warrant earlier this year. Zahan is also related to the Kapoor family, as he is the grandson of Shashi Kapoor, Raj’s younger brother. His parents are Kunal Kapoor (Shashi’s son) and Sheena Sippy (Ramesh Sippy’s daughter). His maternal grandfather is the director of Sholay. That branch of the family, however, was not discussed in the show as it focussed on Raj Kapoor’s immediate family.

Shaira Laura Kapoor

Shaira is not an actor and works primarily as a set designer. She is the daughter of Kunal Kapoor (Shashi Kapoor’s son) and Sheena Sippy (Ramesh Sippy’s daughter). She is the sister of actor Zahan Kapoor.

Kunal Kapoor

Kunal is the son of late actor Shashi Kapoor, who was the younger brother of Raj Kapoor. Kunal famously hosts the Kapoor Christmas lunch every year. He also starred in Shashi’s film Vijeta. He, however, has been away from films for a long time now.

Jatin Prithviraj Kapoor

Jatin is a popular actor, primarily known for his work in television. Jatin was previously known as Jatin Sial. He is the son of Prithviraj Kapoor’s daughter, Urmila Sial. Urmila was the only sister of Raj Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor. He was also a part of the family lunch.

Namita Kapur

Namita is connected to the Kapoor family via her grandmother. Her grandmother Urmila Sial was the only sister of Raj Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor.

Neila Shammi Kapoor

Neila Shammi Kapoor is the wife of actor Shammi Kapoor, who was the younger brother of Raj Kapoor. Neila married Shammi after the death of his first wife Geeta Bali.

Kanchan Desai

Kanchan Desai, who was also a part of the special, is the daughter of Raj Kapoor’s younger brother Shammi Kapoor and his first wife Geeta Bali. Geeta Bali passed away when Kanchan was a baby, and she grew up under the care of her stepmother Neila Devi. Kanchan is married to Ketan Desai, who is the son of filmmaker Manmohan Desai.

Pooja Desai

Pooja is the daughter of Kanchan and filmmaker Ketan Desai. Shammi Kapoor was her grandfather, and so, she is related to the Kapoor family.

Rima Jain

Rima is the youngest daughter of Raj Kapoor and Krishna Kapoor. Rima was a part of the documentary along with her husband and her sons – Aadar and Armaan.

Manoj Jain

Manoj Jain is Raj Kapoor’s son-in-law, as he married his youngest daughter Rima.

Aadar Jain

Aadar is the son of Rima and Manoj Jain. Raj Kapoor was his maternal grandfather. Aadar made his debut in the movies with YRF’s 2017 film Qaidi Band, along with Anya Singh.

Armaan Jain

Armaan, who is one of the creators of the special, and also the host of the family lunch, is the son of Rima Jain and Manoj Jain. He is the grandson of Raj Kapoor. He also made his debut in the movies with 2014’s Lekar Hum Deewana Dil, but left acting after that.

Anissa Malhotra Jain

Armaan’s wife, and Rima’s daughter-in-law was also a part of the lunch.

Randhir Kapoor

Randhir Kapoor is the oldest son of Raj Kapoor. He worked as a director and actor in the movies. His daughters Kareena and Karisma are also a part of the movies. His wife Babita, who also worked as an actor, did not participate in the special.

Karisma Kapoor

Karisma was the first grandchild of Raj Kapoor to work as an actor in the early 1990s.

Kareena Kapoor

Actor Kareena Kapoor, as is well known, is the younger sister of Karisma, and is the daughter of Randhir Kapoor and Babita. Among the biggest stars of the industry, she was among the few Kapoor women who worked in the industry.

Saif Ali Khan

Neetu Kapoor

Neetu Kapoor is the daughter-in-law of Raj Kapoor. She was married to late Rishi Kapoor, Raj Kapoor’s son. She used to work as an actor but took a break after she got married, but has recently resumed acting.

Ranbir Kapoor

One of the most popular stars in the country, Ranbir shares his name with his grandfather – Ranbir Raj Kapoor. Ranbir is the son of Rishi and Neetu Kapoor. His wife Alia Bhatt was not a part of this special.

Riddhima is married to Bharat, who is the son-in-law of Rishi and Neetu Kapoor.

Shweta is the mother of Agastya and Navya Naveli. She is the daughter-in-law of Raj Kapoor’s daughter, Ritu Nanda. She is the daughter of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan.
