‘Dharmendra came on set, I didn’t care to go see him,’ says Mukesh Rishi: ‘After the shoot, I fell on his feet’

Mukesh Rishi recalled the time when he met his idol Dharmendra for the first time. The actor recalled ignoring the star at first but then falling on his feet later.

Mukesh Rishi, who is one of the most popular villains of the Indian cinema, has worked with the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, Aamir Khan, and Mithun Chakraborty among others over his career spanning over three decades. In a recent interview, Mukesh Rishi who has extensively worked with veteran actor Dharmendra, recalled an anecdote from one of their film shoots when the now 68-year-old actor met the star for the first time. Recalling his meeting, the actor said, “I knew he was on set, but I didn’t care to meet him.”

In a new interview with Radio Nasha Official, Mukesh Rishi recalled, “Dharamendra ji is among the people whose poster I had in my cupboard. So when I worked with him, it was surreal. He had a scene to shoot, Dharamendra ji came on set, I know he is there, but I didn’t go to see him. I was mugging up my lines for my scene and then I said I was ready, I went on set, he was already there, but I didn’t look at him. Then the shot happened.”

“Soon after our shot was shot, I just fell on Dharamendra ji’s feet. I waited all this while because if I had met him before the scene, I had so much respect for him, that it would have just come out and I wouldn’t be then able to perform before him. These are the things I have learnt myself, how to face big people. There is no course that teaches you all this. So this was my way to face big people and work with them. I have done quite few films with him,” added the Sooryavansham actor.

Mukesh Rishi and Dharmendra have worked in couple of films in the 90s. While their first project together was Anil Kapoor starrer 1992 film Humlaa, they went to make films like Jeeo Shaan Se (1997), Zul O Situm (1998), Nyaydaata (1999), and Loh Purush (1999).
