Shahid Kapoor’s much-anticipated film Deva is all set to hit theatres this Friday. Ahead of its grand release, the makers opened advance ticket bookings on Wednesday, and going by the early sales, the film is poised to make a significant impact at the box office. According to Sacnilk, the film has sold 23,013 tickets in advance sales across 6,673 shows nationwide. The total advance booking collections stand at Rs 55.43 lakh without block seats, but with block seats included, the figure has surged to Rs 1.17 crore.
Based on these numbers, Deva is expected to rake in around Rs 4-5 crore on its opening day. States contributing significantly to the advance sales include Delhi (Rs 18.96 lakh), Gujarat (Rs 15.17 lakh), Maharashtra (Rs 12.98 lakh), Uttar Pradesh (Rs 9.59 lakh), and Karnataka (Rs 7.17 lakh). Reportedly, the film’s budget is around Rs 85 crore, and with the current momentum, it has strong potential for an excellent return on investment.
To mark the opening of advance bookings, the makers shared an exclusive promo clip from the film on Wednesday. The teaser features Shahid Kapoor’s vigilante police officer standing in front of Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic Deewaar character, drawing a subtle parallel between the two rebellious figures.
Despite strong advance sales, Deva will face stiff competition from Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya’s latest release, Sky Force. The war drama, which hit screens on January 24, has been performing exceptionally well at the box office and is on the verge of crossing the Rs 100 crore mark.
In Deva, Shahid plays a brilliant yet defiant police officer, while Pooja Hegde portrays a journalist. After the trailer release, many viewers drew comparisons between Deva and Shahid’s aggressive character in Kabir Singh. Addressing this, Kapoor clarified during a promotional event in Delhi, “It’s an aggressive character, but Deva is very Deva—there is no Kabir Singh in it.” The film is directed by Rosshan Andrrews, known for Malayalam hits like Salute and Kayamkulam Kochunni.
