Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh appeared as guests on the first episode of Koffee with Karan season eight, where they spoke about their evolving relationship, and making their marriage work in an industry where they’re constantly surrounded by temptations. Deepika said that nobody should be under the impression that their marriage is glorious, and that like everybody else, they have their bad days.

Karan said that that in the film industry, celebrities like Deepika are Ranveer are constantly surrounded by ‘attractive people’, and asked how difficult it is to maintain ‘fidelity’, both emotionally and sexually. Deepika said, “Of course it’s work. I think any marriage is work, whether you’re a part of this industry or outside it. Marriage is work, and it’s work every day.”

She continued, “At the end of the day, he’s had a different life, a different upbringing, and I’ve had a different life and upbringing, and it’s about two very different people coming together. It’s not to say that we don’t have our fights, we don’t have our arguments, we don’t have our bad days. We do. But the fact that we choose to power through it together, the fact that we choose to argue with each other, the fact that we communicate, and choose to learn from that, and grow from that, and then move on, is what makes marriage beautiful.”

Deepika said that they’ve had their rough patches like every couple. “If anyone is under the impression that in marriages you wake up every morning and the sun is shining, and someone says, ‘Hey baby, your coffee is ready’, that’s not what marriage is. Sure, you might have certain days that are like that, but marriage is work. And the work is what makes it beautiful.”

Deepika and Ranveer tied the knot in a secret yet lavish ceremony in Italy’s Lake Como in 2018. They hadn’t confirmed their relationship prior to this, but Ranveer said that they’d been engaged since 2015. They’ve also worked together on several films, and will next collaborate on Rohit Shetty’s upcoming Singham 3.
