De De Pyaar De 2 box office collection day 6: Anshul Sharma’s family comedy De De Pyaar De 2, starring Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan, and Rakul Preet Singh among others, has been in the theatres for nearly a week. On Wednesday, its sixth day at the box office, the film registered its lowest single-day collection at Rs 3.5 crore.
That is a dip from its Tuesday’s (day 5) earnings of Rs 5.25 crore, which was surprisingly a marginal increase from its Monday’s (day 4) collection of Rs 4.25 crore. De De Pyaar De 2 saw a massive downfall on its first Monday after its highest single-day earnings on Sunday (day 3) at Rs 13.75 crore. Saturday (day 2) was the only other day when the film achieved double digits as it garnered Rs 12.25 crore.
De De Pyaar De 2 opened at Rs 8.75 crore on Friday. As per Sacnilk, its total box office collection in India after six days stands at Rs 47.74 crore. While it’s still not touched the Rs 50 crore milestone, the film has at least surpassed the lifetime domestic earnings of Devgn’s last release, Son of Sardaar 2, which was the sequel to Devgn’s 2012 blockbuster Son of Sardaar, which had concluded its box office run at Rs 46.8 crore.
But De De Pyaar De 2 hasn’t even earned one-third of another Devgn sequel from earlier this year — Raj Kumar Gupta’s crime thriller Raid 2, a follow-up to their 2018 hit film. It’s also not a patch on Devgn’s Diwali blockbuster from last year, Rohit Shetty’s cop drama Singham Again, the threequel to their popular Singham franchise. That film earned Rs 247.85 crore at the domestic box office, and surpassed the current box office collection of De De Pyaar De 2 in just less than two days.
Even Vikas Bahl’s supernatural thriller Shaitaan, which also pitted Devgn against Madhavan, also earned Rs 147.97 crore last year. It surpassed the current domestic earnings of De De Pyaar De 2 in less than three days, just like Raid 2, which surpassed what Devgn’s family comedy has earned within its opening weekend at the domestic box office.
De De Pyaar De 2 has another day to at least cross the Rs 50 crore milestone before it encounters new competition this Friday in the period military drama 120 Bahadur, starring Farhan Akhtar, and the sex comedy Mastiii 4, starring Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh, and Aftab Shivdasani.
De De Pyaar De 2 revolves around Devgn’s 50-year-old character Ashish trying to woo his 26-year-old girlfriend Ayesha’s (Rakul) family, where her parents, played by Madhavan and Gautami Kapoor, are her boyfriend’s age. Also starring Jaaved Jaaferi and Meezan Jafri, the film is co-produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankush Garg’s Luv Films and Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series. It’s co-written by Ranjan and Tarun Jain.
