Chhaava box office collection day 21: The Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava has emerged as one of the top 10 highest-grossers of Hindi cinema. On its 21st day in cinemas, the Laxman Utekar directorial made Rs 5.35 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. This takes its nett domestic total to Rs 483.4 crore. Even though Chhaava has been dominating the Hindi box office singlehandedly since its release, it’s still going strong thanks to a lack of competition. On Thursday, Chhaava saw an overall occupancy of around 10 percent.

The Mumbai region, which was seen as the primary market for the film, Chhaava still has over 1100 shows. And on Thursday, it observed an occupancy of 13 percent. In the Delhi-NCR region, the film had over 1200 shows and observed an occupancy of around 8.5 percent. Chhaava is based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.

Chhaava is currently the eighth-highest Hindi grosser of all time. The film is just Rs 42 crore shy of crossing Gadar 2’s record of Rs 525 crore. To cross Pathaan’s lifetime collection, the film still needs to make Rs 60 crore. Chhaava has no competition in sight for now. There are no major releases in Bollywood until Salman Khan’s Sikandar, which releases at the end of this month. It looks like Chhaava will be able to cross Gadar 2 and Pathaan’s collections by then.

Chhaava will also be released in Telugu on Friday. Previously, many Telugu releases like Pushpa 2: The Rule and RRR have done well across the country. but most Hindi films have not been able to find success in the south.

The production banner behind Chhaava, Maddock Films, has been on a roll since last year. Their films, Stree 2 and Munjya, have done exceedingly well at the box office but, their most recent release Sky Force, faced some controversy as some trade analysts questioned its box office numbers.

Before the release of the film, Chhaava faced some controversies. As the trailer dropped, many people objected to the Lezim dance sequence where Vicky’s Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was shown to be dancing with the locals. The makers apologised for hurting the sentiments of the people and deleted the dance sequence from the film.
Recently, the descendants of the Shirke family raised an objection to how their ancestors were portrayed in the film and threatened to sue a Rs 100 crore defamation lawsuit. Laxman Utekar has apologised to them as well.
