Kartik Aaryan’s biographical sports drama Chandu Champion, directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, has been receiving great reviews. The film was released in theatres on June 14 and it collected Rs 5.40 crore. Despite strong word of mouth, the Kartik Aaryan starrer failed to rake in a double-digit figure on Saturday. It did show a spike in the numbers, but the jump was not as big as it should have been on day 2.
On Saturday, Chandu Champion witnessed a growth of 42.59 per cent and collected Rs 7.70 crore in India. Two days after its release, the film’s total collection stands at Rs 13.10 crore. Considering the reviews Kartik Aaryan’s film has received, the box office collection is not at par. As per a few trade experts, the movie has garnered a low collection.
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to X and wrote, “#ChanduChampion witnesses 42.59% growth on Day 2 [Sat] – which was on the cards – but the 2-day total remains low, definitely not in sync with the merits of the film… Ideally, a double digit number on Day 2 would’ve placed #ChanduChampion in a comfortable position. #ChanduChampion has two more days – Sun and Mon – to convert the critical acclaim + audience praise into big numbers [hopefully, double digits], before the weekdays begin. #ChanduChampion faces a tough opponent in #Munjya, which is faring exceptionally well and is grabbing a major chunk of the market share. [Week 1] Fri 5.40 cr, Sat 7.70 cr. Total: ₹ 13.10 cr. #India biz. #Boxoffice”
Luckily, Chandu Champion has gotten an extended weekend, with Monday being an Eid Holiday. Now, the film has two more days to redeem itself. Prior to Chandu Champion, Dinesh Vijan’s horror comedy Munjya was released and in a week the film managed to collect more than Rs 40 crore at the box office. While Munjya continues to grow at the box office, it can give Chandu Champion stiff competition.
Chandu Champion tells the story of India’s first Paralympic gold medalist Murlikant Petkar.
