After some confusion and chaos regarding release dates, things are finally settling down for Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan—although a bit late, which might cost both Eid releases dearly. The advance booking data for April 11 is out, and as of now, the lead is with Akshay Kumar-Tiger Shroff’s actioner, although Ajay Devgn’s sports biopic isn’t far behind.
Earlier, both the films were set to open on April 10, a Wednesday, but due to Eid falling on April 11, the release plans for the movies went for a toss. On a limited basis, the advance bookings were also opened for April 10 but the makers of both Bade Miyan and Maidaan decided that they would have a full-fledged release on April 11– with select paid previews starting from April 10 evening.
But even this plan was later changed, adding to more confusion for the exhibition sector as well as fans. As things stand today, Ajay Devgn-fronted Maidaan will have paid previews on April 10 starting 6 PM, while Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan will open wide only on April 11. According to the trade, tickets for April 10 paid previews for Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, which were earlier opened to the public, will now be refunded. Similarly, tickets for shows booked for anytime before 6 PM for Maidaan on April 10 will also be refunded.
The data shared by industry tracker Sacnilk for April 11, after all the back and forth, shows that Bade Miyan Chote Miyan is ahead of Maidaan– but the sales for both the films remain low. While Bade Miyan Chote Miyan has sold 16,028 tickets all India (Rs 38 lakhs gross), Maidaan has sold 12,769, with gross collection amounting to Rs 27.39 lakhs.
Bade Miyan Chote Miyan will have a wider release than Maidaan, in 3D, Tamil and Telugu versions. The show count for the film as of now is nearly 4,000. Maidaan, meanwhile, has managed over 3,000 shows. Both films, however, will see a significant increase in shows and screen count today and tomorrow, which would result in better advance booking as most properties, especially in the national chains, will roll out full showcasing.
