Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana is gearing up for the release of Thamma, his first-ever vampire film. However, ahead of its release, the actor found himself in a controversy after he said Thamma was “more massy” than Lokah. Now, Ayushmann has addressed the misunderstanding.
In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, the actor clarified, “I’m a fan of that film. There’s no doubt it’s an amazing film — everyone will agree. What I meant to say was that in the Hindi-speaking market — like when I was shooting in Allahabad — Lokah wasn’t released there. I really wanted to watch it, but there was no show. I had to come all the way to Mumbai to see it. But I know Thamma will reach places like that, which is why I said what I said.”

He added, “I loved Lokah. More power to Dulquer Salmaan, Kalyani Priyadarshan, and the entire team. I truly enjoyed the film.”
Ayushmann concluded by saying, “I feel Thamma will benefit from the success of Lokah.”
Previously, during the promotional event of Thamma, Ayushmann Khurrana had said, “We are high on comedy. Though I enjoyed Lokah, I was shooting in Allahabad at the time, and it wasn’t released there. So ours is a more massy film because it penetrates into the Hindi-speaking markets as well. Lokah could be a good induction for multiplex audiences, but Thamma has a different genesis, different situations, and a different story. There’s hardly any similarity.”
Lokah marked the beginning of Dulquer Salmaan’s planned cinematic universe inspired by Kerala folklore, while Thamma is the sixth installment in Dinesh Vijan’s expanding horror universe — following Stree, Roohi, Bhediya, Munjya, and Stree 2.
Thamma, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, also stars Paresh Rawal, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles.
