It is a mixed bag of emotions for actor Aparshakti Khuarana who is excited to spend time with his two-year-old daughter Arzoie on this Father’s Day. He is also heartbroken as he will not have his father around for the first time. Astrologer P Khurana, father to Aparshakti and Ayushmann Khurrana, passed away last month.
In this interview with indianexpress.com, the Jubilee star talks about his plans for Father’s Day and his father’s message in his final moments. Aparshakti says, “Spending time with my baby is a very important aspect in this phase of my life, especially because of my hectic work schedule. So, I am going to be with her the whole day. This is the first Father’s Day when I won’t have my dad, so it is going to be difficult as well. In a way we have given a very celebratory goodbye to him and I would like to stick to that feeling and try to inculcate the discipline and all the qualities he’s given to me in life.”
After his father’s passing, Ayushmann had taken to social media to share his father’s last advice to him and his brother. He had told them, “Maa ka khayal rakhna hai aur humesha saath rehna hai (Take care of your mother and always stay together).” When asked what are his fondest memories with his late father, Aparshakti remembered how he spent the whole day with him at the hospital before he breathed his last.
“I have many beautiful memories with my father. But there are these two anecdotes that I would like to share. He used to say this one thing very often, to me and bhaiya, and also to others. He would share that when Ram won the war against Ravana, the king of Lanka said the reason you won is that your brother stood by you whereas my brother didn’t. Saying such things, inculcating such values is very important in this day and age as it makes a very positive impact on your life — personal and professional,” the 35-year-old actor shared.
He added how he and Ayushmann had discussed with their father what they think he should do with their old family house after they shifted to a new house in Chandigarh. He shared, “I was fortunate enough to spend an entire day with him before things got serious. That day, at the hospital, he was very chirpy, he was very up-tempo about life and said beautiful things. He remembered how I had called him one day and told him to give the old house to bhaiya now that we have moved into the new family home in Chandigarh. He said that a couple of weeks before I called him, Ayushmann had also called him and had said that since we now have a new house, he should give the old house to me. He said that at that point he felt very good. He said, ‘I have been an astrologer for over thirty years but people have come to me to ask when they will get the property, not because they want to give away their property to someone. When I revisit his last words, I think how fortunate we have been to have a father like him and happy with the fact that as brothers me and Ayushmann are so thick and I would want my daughter to follow such enriching values as well. He was very happy that Jubilee was a success. Lots of things remind me of him.”
Aparshakti made his acting debut in Aamir Khan’s Dangal in 2016. While he’s sailed through his seven year long career, his career saw a newfound success with his latest outing, Vikramaditya Motwane’s Jubilee. On this new phase, Aparshakti says, “I am very happy and content but I would like to believe that my heart and mind are in the right place. I have decided a lot of love from the media and the audience equally for Jubilee, and now I am taking even better steps in the direction I want to achieve.”
Aparshakti will be seen in Amar Kaushik’s Stree 2 along with Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi and Abhishek Bannerjee. He shared that the sequel to Stree (2018) will go on floors soon.
Giving an update on when they’ll start shooting Stree 2, Aparshakti said, “We are soon going to Chanderi to shoot. Everybody attached to Stree kept in touch in the years after it released and it is a big thing, all five of us — me, Rajkummar Rao, Shradha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi and Abhishek Banerjee — have grown from there. To bring all the five actors together and recreate the magic, give them equal parts is a big achievement. Seldom there are sequels where all actors from the original film have grown equally and been loved equally, so the credit goes to the makers. Otherwise there are cases where one or two actors grow but here all of us grew and found new success, so it is a great experience.”
“We have done our readings and it is looking absolutely fantastic and we’ll be going to Madhya Pradesh within the next ten days to shoot,” the actor concluded.
