Yesteryear star Poonam Dhillon had a dream debut in the movies as she got an opportunity to star in Trishul which starred actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Rakhee, Hema Malini. Poonam, who was still a teenager at the time, played Sanjeev Kumar’s daughter in the film and her first shot had her performing with Amitabh. In a recent chat, Poonam recalled her first day on the set and shared that no one apart from Trishul director Yash Chopra realised that this was the start of her career.
“My first day of shoot was with Amitabh Bachchan and he had to pick me up in his arms,” she shared with Radio Nasha. “No one realised that it was my first day and I was shooting with such a big star, and such a good looking man was to pick me up in his arms. He was going about the shoot holding me in his arms. He was treating me like a prop,” she recalled with a laugh.
“Then finally the scene ended and he put me down and everybody just went on. Only Yash ji realised that it was the first shot of my career. And he came up to me and said ‘All the best kudiye,'” she recalled.
Trishul was shot in Delhi and hundreds of fans would gather on the streets when the stars would be shooting for the film. Poonam recalled that a fan later asked her how it felt to be in Amitabh’s arms.
“We were shooting in Delhi and a lot of fans would gather around. One of the women, who was there to see the shoot, she asked me, ‘How does it feel to be in Amitabh Bachchan’s arms?’ I said, ‘I didn’t realise that.’ I was just so scared and nervous,” she shared.
Poonam Dhillon’s first lead role was in YRF’s Noorie. She has appeared in popular films like Sohni Mahiwal, Naam, Karma among others.
