The 1990 movie Hum had some memorable moments and songs, one of them being the now-iconic ‘item number’ featuring megastar Amitabh Bachchan called “Jumma Chumma”. Big B was seen in a white shirt, black jacket and black pants in the music video and a red piece of cloth draped around his neck as he swayed to the hit track.
While the Sudesh Bhosle and Kavita Krishnamurthy-sung “Jumma Chumma” went on to become a chartbuster, the actor initially had reservations about doing some suggestive steps as a part of the choreography.
Speaking on the talk show, Weekend with Ramesh, choreographer of the song, Chinni Prakash, who was an ace dance master in his time, revealed that Amitabh was worried about its signature step looking too ‘vulgar’ and had apparently even requested the makers to change the dance step. However, Chinni Prakash thought that the step added the necessary spice to the song and did not relent, with that same move becoming a sensation among the viewers.
Chinni Prakash also stated that Amitabh’s actor-wife Jaya Bachchan was shown a preview of the song before its final release, and her reaction to it was quite positive: “Jaya Ji felt the hook step would become a hit. Even if Big B was not much ok with the hook step, it was Jaya Ji who shared that the hook step will be remembered by everyone even in the upcoming eras. She even asked Amitabh Bachchan to retain the hook step in the song.”
On the work front, Amitabh Bachchan was last seen in Uunchai. He has Ganapath, Project K and The Intern’s Hindi remake in the pipeline.
