Amitabh Bachchan is beaming with pride after his son Abhishek Bachchan bagged the Best Actor award for I Want To Talk at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IIFM) 2025. The megastar took to his blog to share a heartfelt note along with pictures of Abhishek, calling himself “the happiest father in the entire universe”.
He wrote, “Abhishek, you are the pride and honour of the family. You fly the flag that Dadaji established and have carried it with valour and hard work. Consistency, never giving in, and an attitude of: no matter how much you bring me down, I will rise again with my effort — and stand even taller. It took time, but you never gave up. You showed the world your strength. At Melbourne, they declared you the Best Actor. There can be no greater gift for a father.”
Big B also quoted a poem by his father, legendary poet Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan in Hindi: “I have learnt from the ocean the disposition of living life; to flow in the silent quiet, and be in the ecstasy of my own surging waves.”
Alongside Abhishek Bachchan’s picture from the film festival, Amitabh Bachchan shared a magazine cover featuring his son and reflected on the long journey to this recognition. “Those who recognised your talent may have been several oceans away, but in time, our own shores shall embrace you with the same surging waves. Years ago, I celebrated a masterpiece performance of yours. Many ridiculed me then, dismissing my words as paternal flamboyance. But that sly laughter has now been silenced by respect and applause.”
He concluded his note with a powerful message: “Winning is the ultimate answer to many binding ropes and chains. The price of victory is high, but so are the rewards. You, Abhishek, have proved that. Stay quiet and flow at your own wish. With all my love — a very proud father and family.”
Apart from Abhishek Bachchan, the festival honoured Geetha Kailasam with the Best Actress award, Jaideep Ahlawat with the Best Actor (Series) award for Paatal Lok 2, and Nimisha Sajayan with the Best Actress (Series) award for Dabba Cartel. Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound won both Best Film and Best Director, while Aamir Khan was presented with the Excellence in Cinema award. Actor Arvind Swamy, meanwhile, received the Leadership in Cinema honour.
