Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane‘s Sanam Teri Kasam, which originally hit screens in 2016, was re-released earlier this month and received an overwhelming response. Following the success of the re-release, directors Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru announced a sequel. However, soon after this announcement, producer Deepak Mukut revealed he wasn’t consulted about the sequel and emphasized that he holds Sanam Teri Kasam’s IP rights. Now, director Vinay Sapru has clarified that all is well between the makers and confirmed the sequel, which had been written earlier, is set for release in 2026.

Talking to the Hindustan Times, Vinay said, “Sanam Teri Kasam begins with a flashback. We wrote part two of the film at that time only. We wanted to go ahead with a second part, but unfortunately for whatever reason, we couldn’t. Nobody even asked for it all this while, until now. This confusion has been happening because of the interviews. I want to put it on record once and for all: There will be another story of love and promises that will arrive on Valentine’s in 2026, but we haven’t announced a film. How can I be so selfish to announce? I love my team – my producer, my actors. Deepak is a dear friend; I had dinner with him on Monday night.”

Vinay Sapru also shared that Deepak Mukut will produce the sequel of Sanam Teri Kasam. He said, “We are a team. This journey is for all of us.”

Earlier, commenting on the misunderstanding, Deepak Mukut had said, “The IP of Sanam Teri Kasam belongs to me since I am its producer. So, the right to make a sequel or even a prequel or a remake rests with me. I announced the sequel in September 2024 with Harshvardhan Rane in the lead. As for the directors (Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru), I haven’t had any discussion with them. They haven’t met and spoken to me about it. I have not finalized any director.”

Sanam Teri Kasam has over Rs 37 crore in 12 days after its re-release.
