Karan Johar’s chat show Koffee With Karan has been the battleground of actors, with many taking sly digs at each other on the show. One such moment happened in the first season itself when Lara Dutta and Bipasha Basu spoke about Ameesha Patel at length. Their comments about the Gadar star made the headlines, prompting host Karan to invite Ameesha to get her reaction to Lara and Bipasha’s statements. However, Ameesha says she told the filmmaker she won’t say anything about it.
In a recent interview, Ameesha said she is clueless why Lara and Bipasha said what they said. “Lara and Bipasha were on Koffee With Karan, and apparently they spoke some things which were not complimentary about me. and I don’t know why. I had done an entire world tour with Bipasha and I got along well. I was totally civil. Lara and I had done Elaan together and I was very polite throughout the filming,” Ameesha told Bollywood Hungama.
After the said episode, when Karan met Ameesha, with whom he had already planned to do an episode of Koffee With Karan, he tried to get a reaction out of her.
“Karan was at the premiere of Vaada and Arjun (Rampal) and I were about to be on the show. So, Karan asked me in his typical Karan style, ‘So Ameesha, you know Lara and Bipasha this and that about you on the show. What are you going to say when you come on the show next week?’ I told him, ‘Nothing Karan. I am just going to say, ‘No comments’. He was like, ‘Oh, you and your typical South Bombay manners.'” Ameesha shared.
Ameesha had apparently spoken about Bipasha’s hips after the release of Jism and had said that she would not have done Jism since her grandmother would have been unhappy with that movie. Reacting to her comments, Bipasha had said on KWK, “I would say first of all Ameesha doesn’t have the physical attributes to carry a role like Jism. It is a very honest (statement), I would not cast her to carry a Jism. You need to be a woman, like a total package, not just bodily but you have to have a very strong personality. I think she is too petite, too small to do that. You know, her whole frame is wrong.”
Reacting to Bipasha’s statement, Ameesha recently said, “Jism was a fantastic film with great performances. All I am saying is, why Bipasha? I am not comfortable being a Sharon Stone. I think it takes gut to be there and be bold physically. Am I comfortable with that kind of boldness and skin show on the screen, I am not.” She added that her grandmother would have “shot me through the roof” had she done that film.
The Kaho Na Pyar Hai actor added that this was the reason she told Aditya Chopra she won’t wear a bikini in the song ‘Lazy Lamhe’.
“For Lazy Lamhe, I was the first Yash Raj heroine who had the guts to tell Adi that I will not be in a bikini. Hence, the hot pants with the bikini top. I told the top producer of the country that I will not be comfortable and am willing to walk out of the film. It was not said in bad taste towards Bipasha because I think she was amazing,” Ameesha said.
Ameesha Patel will be next seen in the sequel of her superhit film Gadar. Also starring Sunny Deol, Gadar 2 will hit the theaters on August 11.
