Actor Ameesha Patel, who was recently seen in Gadar 2, has opened up about how certain people were against the launch of her debut film, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. She said nobody had “faith in Hrithik Roshan”. Ameesha said that since Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor Khan were also launched at the same time, there was a lot of pressure on them.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Ameesha said, “Everyone was against the launch because everyone had no faith in Hrithik, because, at the same time, Mr Amitabh Bachchan’s son Abhishek was being launched. I was non-filmy; Abhishek was being launched with Kareena, so this was a very underdog project till, of course, it actually came to the screens.”
She added, “So, in fact, people asked Rakesh Roshan to change the release date because we had Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan’s ‘Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani’ and ‘Mela’ before and after us. And they said, ‘How can you bring these two nobodies in between these two hurricanes of films?’ Rakesh uncle said, ‘I’m not going to change. I have faith in my film.’”
Ameesha continued, “That was enough for me that such a big director like Rakesh Roshan was risking his career and his son’s career with a new girl like me, yeah, so that gave me the confidence that he has faith in me.”
Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai was released in the year 2000 and it became one of the biggest blockbuster films of that year.
Ameesha’s latest film Gadar 2 is a riot at the box office and has earned around Rs 335 crores. In the film, Ameesha and Sunny Deol reprise the roles of Sakina and Tara Singh. Helmed by Anil Sharma, the film also stars his son Utkarsh Sharma.
