Alia Bhatt’s fans were in for a big surprise as the trailer of her Hollywood debut Heart of Stone dropped late on Saturday night. The actor was in Sao Paulo, Brazil for the Tudum event along with co-stars Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan as they unveiled the film’s trailer. While most fans were excited to see Alia playing the main antagonist, a few noted how she was given limited screen time in the trailer.
The actor had addressed the same concerns at the red carpet of the event sharing how she’s not worried about it. Speaking to Mid-Day about her reaction if audiences felt she wasn’t seen enough in the trailer. “Woh toh hoga hi (That will happen),” Alia said, adding that she’s not too worried about that “because I feel at the end of the day you have to get a sense of what the story is about and how the story leads you to the final film. That’s all that matters.”
The trailer gives a glimpse of the espionage thriller lined up for fans. Gal Gadot plays Rachel Stone, a member of the Charter. We are told the secret agency takes over ‘when governments fail’. They have ‘the most highly trained agents’ and ‘no political leanings’ or any ‘national allegiances’. They work together to maintain peace in a turbulent world.
It is also revealed that everybody is chasing after a MacGuffin called ‘the Heart’ — this is the object that gives the Charter its ‘power’. Somewhat surprisingly, it seems like Alia is playing the villain in the movie. Her character steals the Heart and challenges Rachel: “Now you answer to me,” she says with a smile on her face.
In an earlier interview with Variety, Alia Bhatt had earlier spoken about stepping into uncharted waters. She also spoke about being pregnant during the shoot of her film, which required her to deal with many layers. “It was my first Hollywood big English picture experience and I had quite a task at hand because I was shooting for the first time an action movie. But I’m also pregnant so there were so many layers for me to deal with. But they made it so seamless and so easy and so comfortable for me. It’s something that I will never forget because of how beautifully and how well I was treated,” she said.
Directed by Tom Harper, Heart of Stone also stars Matthias Schweighöfer, Jing Lusi and Paul Ready. The movie will debut on Netflix on August 11.
