The failure of Alaya F’s last film, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, had sparked a discussion about the current state of the Hindi film industry, which is grappling with consecutive flops; and whether stars charging hefty fees of Rs 100 crore is justifiable when their films fail to generate a return on investment. In the midst of this debate, Alaya F has weighed in on the rising costs and the substantial expenses an actor incurs to sustain a career in the film industry. She highlighted how an actor has to pay several people just to put together a single look, in addition to the increasing costs of paparazzi spotting and public relations.
In an interview with Bollywood Bubble about the rising cost in the industry, she said, “Everything is getting so expensive. I am not talking about luxury expenses, I am talking about career expenses. What is going on? Why are the prices of everything rising? Running a career costs money, people don’t realise how much you have to invest back into your career.”
Discussing the daily expenses actors incur, she mentioned, “At the start of everyday, there is a hair person, there is a makeup person, there’s a photographer and a stylist – this is already four people who are getting paid for just putting me into this look. Not talking PR, which costs money. I don’t know if I should talk about it but pap spotting also… everything costs money and not just a small chunk of money, these things cost a lot of money. And when you are doing these things on a regular basis like getting ready. For instance, if I have six events to attend in a month, I am paying six times that money to go to these events.”
Emphasising the importance of saving, especially when young, Alaya said, “Other than that you are also running a home, you have car EMIs and hundred other things. The other day I was going through my finances and how much money I had spent and I was shocked by the amount that goes in work related expense in a month. So, yeah you need to save.”
On the professional front, Alaya is currently enjoying the success of her latest film Srikanth, opposite Rajkummar Rao. She plays Rajkummar’s love interest in the film, which is based on the life of Srikanth Bolla, a visually-impaired industrialist.
