Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has begun shooting for his upcoming film Bhooth Bangla, which marks his fifth collaboration with acclaimed director Priyadarshan. The horror comedy, slated to release in theatres on April 2, 2026, promises to be a thrilling ride, with Akshay set to play the role of a magician alongside three female leads.
The reunion of Akshay and Priyadarshan after 14 years has generated immense excitement among fans, who are eagerly awaiting the release of Bhooth Bangla. The actor took to social media to express his enthusiasm for the project, which is expected to be a game-changer in the Bollywood horror comedy genre.
Taking to Instagram, Akshay Kumar wrote, “Beyond excited to be on set with my favourite @priyadarshandir as we begin the shoot of our horror comedy #BhoothBangla today. Yeh darr aur hasi ka double dose aapke liye ready hoga 2nd April, 2026 ko! Tab tak ke liye aapke best wishes chahiye 🙏.”
Akshay Kumar’s fans and followers expressed their excitement for his film with Priyadarshan as they wrote heartfelt messages for him in the post’s comments section. One fan wrote, “Hey paji, don’t delay this film, the trend of horror- comedy is going on, kill it and give it to another film but not this film.” Another user commented, “OG Khiladi is back, can’t wait for the long awaited Akshay X Priyadarshan reunion 🔥🔥🔥.” Another comment read, “Director – Priyadarshan 💀🗿 ( blockbuster for sure ).”
Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar have collaborated on films like Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Bhagam Bhag. Their last movie together was Khatta Meetha, a 2010 political satire.
Priyadarshan had earlier said that he is excited to be reuniting with Akshay. Talking to PTI, he stated, “Every film I’ve made with him has been a superhit. People say that you are the reason Akshay (does comedy), but I don’t believe in all those things. What I did was exploit his sense of humour (on screen). We are working after 14 years and I hope things will work. It’s a challenge. We can’t match the expectations (of the audience) but I’m trying my best.”
Bhooth Bangla is based on the theme of black magic and is expected to be a laugh-out-loud comedy, given the director-actor duo’s previous success with the 2007 hit film Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Starring Vidya Balan alongside Akshay, Bhool Bhulaiyaa was a massive box office success and paved the way for the sequels, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and the upcoming Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, directed by Anees Bazmee and starring Kartik Aaryan.
